INTERVENTION

Intervention For Learning:
Our interventionists use a variety of literacy interventions, depending on individual student’s needs.

FCRR – Florida Center of Reading Research – These activities are broken down into phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Additionally, they are broken down into grade levels. All of the activities are research-based to meet the needs of our students.

Great Leaps -This program is a fluency-based intervention for grades K-2 and 3-5. The purpose of the program is to accelerate reading and reading fluency growth for students encountering reading difficulties in reading fluency. It is broken down into different sections, including phonemic awareness, phonics, sight phrases, and stories. It provides immediate feedback, which is proven to be a powerful intervention strategy. It is designed to be completed individually with students.

Reading A-Z – This intervention utilizes a leveled system of books, ranging from a through z. Each level correlates with a grade level. Students are given an assessment to see on which level instruction needs to begin. Students increase levels as their fluency and comprehension scores increase. In addition to leveled readers, this intervention also provides decodable books to focus on word decoding.

Fast Track Phonics – This intervention focuses on phonics. Students are introduced to letter-sound correspondence with mnemonic pictures in order to remember shapes and sounds. Blending, segmenting, word manipulation and spelling make up the majority of the routines in this intervention.

Strategic Intervention – This intervention connects with our reading program, Storytown. It offers an additional level of support for students who are not reaching proficiency with the instruction provided during the 90-minute reading block. Strategic Intervention is designed to reinforce the same phonemic awareness skill, phonics sound, fluency strategy, vocabulary words, and comprehension strategy and skill that are being taught during Storytown. However, Strategic Intervention uses a simpler story to reinforce these skills and strategies.

Intensive Intervention – This intervention connects with our reading program, Storytown. It offers a more intensive approach for students who are not reaching proficiency with instruction provided during the 90-minute reading block. It offers intentional, intensive, and specific strategies for the five components of literacy instruction.
