ACADEMIC PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Welcome to Lincoln Charter Elementary School! We are a small, vibrant K-5 Public Charter School located in York, Pennsylvania. We provide a standards-based (Common Core) curriculum and believe in developing the whole child. Our dedication to developing every child into a responsible citizen is evident in our hallways, in our classrooms, and in our academic results. ASSESSMENTS AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT

We utilize different academic web-based assessment programs to ensure we collect as much data such as Study Island, Renaissance Place, and AimsWeb.
To support our teachers and students with instruction, we provide web-based programs such as Wonders Reading, Wonders Social Studies, Wonders My Math, Etc.

LANGUAGE ARTS

We believe all students need a balanced approach to literacy learning. Each child receives daily instruction in Reading, and Writing Workshop, where students develop their skills in learning how to become lifelong learners and lovers of reading and writing. In reading, we teach the habits of good readers and support students in developing comprehension skills. In writing, the students study at least three different genres each year, learn about mentor authors, and publish their own writing several times over the course of the year. In addition, all students receive individualized instruction provided by our Reading Intervention Program, while formative and diagnostic assessments are also given throughout the year. Word study and vocabulary skills are taught at all grade levels.

MATH

We are excited to continue using the Common Core State Standards (PA Standards). Our students receive math instruction daily while studying mathematical concepts that are needed to be successful. Teachers are using lessons from our Wonder Math curriculum, Everyday Math, as well as supplemental tasks that promote higher-level thinking.

SCIENCE

Our teachers are encouraged to incorporate a hands-on approach to teaching science. In addition to learning grade-level standards in an accessible way, our students attend a field trip each year that extends their learning of the concepts they are experiencing in class.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We teach Social Studies with a thematical approach, integrating Wonders SS and Social Studies Alive programs to support classroom instruction. Each grade level works together to create a yearlong plan of developmentally appropriate themes (i.e. “Families” in Kindergarten and “Our Community in Fourth Grade), tapping into the real issues that students go through in life and that tie to the Social Studies Framework.
